Rotoscope

Rotoscoping animation I learned in class

The project is about learning the basics of rotoscoping and creating a rotoscope animation by using photoshop and after effects. This project was created for CMD 317 Advance Practice in Motion and Sound. We also needed to sound effects and make it loop twice as it was the instructions of the project. Rotoscoping is an animation technique that animators use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action.I rotoscoped a beating heart in a low pixel count style. After tracing over the heart in photoshop, I imported to After Effect for the other types of animation and editing the video.

What I've learned

  1. Basic rotoscoping

  2. Making animations using Adobe After Effects

Mole Hunter

A game I made for Communication with Form and Space class

I created this game for an open studio class during my third year of university, and it's about glitches in video games. At first, you'd think it's just a normal game about hunting moles, but I actually intended it to be glitchy to surprise the player.I researched about glitches while doing this project. Basically, glitches in video games can be a lot of things: a game crash, a texture error, a character’s AI messing up, etc. I was fascinated by how we can get a glimpse into the backstage of the video game through these glitches. Therefore, I decided to make it the main theme of my game.To develop this game, I used GBstudio as the main engine since it's fairly beginner-friendly. It also doesn't make large files or require top processing hardwares. For the art, I created them using Asprite. It's simple to set events and actions. Using the resources and tips from a website called gbstudiocentral, I found ways to create proper actions to events to tell a story. I also messed around with the engine, forcing it to have an error while running the game so it glitches onto my game.

What I've learned

  1. Game development and its hardships

  2. How to use game development tools/engine

  3. Pros and cons of communicating feelings and information via games

Scenes in the game. The color scheme can be changed in the engine.

My game is on itch.io and it's free!

Chippy

Product design and creation for Post Production class

While I was in the Post Production class, I was tasked with researching, designing, and developing a product. My idea was that I'd like it to be a cute item on people's office desk near the computer. I took inspiration from computer components, for example, chips and circuit boards. My first step was disembling an old tamagotchi, a childhood favorite tiny game device, to see what's inside. I then looked at each electronic component and make them into cute characters. The concept of this is that you're able to choose the character you'd like to chat with. Then, I used an arduino board to make it so that I could display it on a screen and modify it as needed.

What I've learned

  1. Product design and development process

  2. Coding an arduino and how to use an arduino board

  3. Character design

Spirit Bottles

A collection of pixel art of alcohols I'm interested in

I got inspired by items in video games, plus I had a time off from university and a bunch of alcohol bottles lying around in my room; so I came up with some pixel illustrations of alcohol bottles I like.As you can already notice: I love making pixel art, and I love mixing and drinking alcohols. Two things combined, and this is my little passion project I made to post on Instagram.

Summertime

COVID-19 got me inspired

Everyone was stuck at home during COVID-19, including me. So I was about to be bored to death when I came up with this idea to make pixel animations on real life footage. The contrast between real world and digital world is really big, and I think I like how the pixel animations just pop.I did the art on Asprite, a program used to make pixel art, and animated them on Adobe After Effects.

The cart I designed is inspired by street food cart in Thailand, Japan, and South Korea

Sipping on the rock

Waiting for the train sure is long

Sky Island

3D scenery inspired by Animal Crossing

Inspired by Animal Crossing, I wanted to create something cute and relaxing. I chose a low-poly, toy-like style for this one. I made this using Blender.I wanted to improve my 3D sculpting skills and saw this as a challenge for myself. I'm really satisfied how it turned out.

Different angles of this work

Mega Dining Destination

Promotional video for restaurants in Mega Bangna

When I was an intern at Ductstore, a graphic studio, one of the bigger projects I was responsible for was Mega Dining Destination. This project had the purpose of promoting restaurants in Mega Bangna, collaborating with big influencers to help promote the campaign. My tasks were to make motion graphics and subtitle for the said video. It was quite challenging for me because the subtitle was in Thai, and I'm Korean. Though I'm fluent in Thai, there's still some aspects that I'm not proficient with.About the motion graphics, I was provided with the elements and had to animate them. Adjustments were needed as requested by the client, and I had to make sure they fit the fun and whimsical style of the video. They were not as difficult for me, but rather a repetitive process that required a lot of time.It was the first time I experienced color grading in video first hand in a professional work environment.

What I've learned

  1. Working according to client requirements for a large company

  2. Understanding new work process

  3. Synergizing with other coworkers and departmenr effciiently to finish the project with the best quality

  4. Getting first-hand experience on how to work in a professional setting

  5. Creating motion graphics within time limit

  6. Learning from client feedbacks

ZALEKTA

Promotional video trailer for the trendsetters themselves

The project was to create a trailer for Zalekta, vibe setters. The trailer was to promote their company so we needed to create a video to convey the Zalekta brand which was awe and professionalism.I was given a task to create motion graphics for the trailer, which are a list of things Zalekta represents from A to Z.This task wasn't challenging in terms of design, but more in the aspect of time management. Since the motion graphics were A to Z, it means I'd have to create at least 26 different animations. They had to be done within time limit, but I was satisfied with the results.

What I've learned

  1. Working in a team

  2. Asking for feedback and revising

  3. Creating customized styles that fit the client's brand identity

The video trailer Zalekta posted. The alphabetical-order phrases are what I did.

Mega Mighty Mom Campaign

Mega Bangna's promotional video, for which I made its motion graphics

Mega Bangna arranged a promotional campaign for mothers' day with the key theme that went like "every mom is a super hero". I got into the team mid-project, and everything started from there.I was chosen to do the motion graphics for the videos. My job was to make sure it fit the super hero theme, and that's why everything looks like it's on comic books. I did have to produce the motion graphics in a large quantity with very limited time. It would be a lie if I said it wasn't challenging for me.I also went to the studio for the shooting, which is my first time being there. I had to make sure the outcome would fit the key visual elements as planned. All in all, it was a lot of work, and I was and still am really proud of the results.

What I've learned

  1. On-field video shooting process

  2. Working with video visual team

  3. Working under pressure from deadline

  4. New challenges on the working process
